The Brief
For this showhome project, the team at Malcolm Allan Housebuilders was looking to create a luxurious family home that reflected the prestigious location of its development in the sought-after suburb of Milltimber. They required a showhome which was grand and inspirational, while still embodying a welcoming atmosphere that would appeal to a range of different customers.
Design Influences
The overall design of the showhome is very sophisticated and homely. We incorporated a luxurious feel through the use of a tonal colour scheme, paired together with layers of sumptuous textures and a contrast between black and gold details.
Throughout the showhome, the main idea was to create a seamless flow between rooms. We’ve achieved this by using a similar natural toned palette in each room, with details of gold and blacks.
Key design elements
The standout element for downstairs has to be the Amtico flooring. The dark wood effect really brings a warm and inviting feel to the space, and creates a beautiful backdrop for all the furniture to sit on.
For the dining area, we used lighter tones to contrast against the dark kitchen cupboards. The key piece in this room is the stunning Calligaris dining table - its black legs combined with the marble tabletop bring a really luxurious look. We also used a mix of textures in this room with the boucle armchair, velvet dining chairs and linen effect curtains to give the room a warm, homely feel.
In the lounge, we wanted to create a more formal setting. This was achieved through the shapes of all the furniture pieces, as well as the intricate button details and piping on the sofas. With the sofas facing each other, it makes the space more sociable while still keeping the luxurious look and feel that the client wanted. We added darker elements such as the footstool, to contrast with the light sofas and wallpaper, with trim details onto the curtains for added opulence.
The cinema room incorporates deep, natural tones and a wood slat feature wall to create a warm, homely feel with plenty of depth. The striking ceiling light is definitely a showstopper which brings the room together, reflecting the wood from the slat wall and the dark tones of the wallpaper. The deep, pillow-back sofa in this room adds an extra cosy touch - making it the ideal space for relaxing.
To continue the rest of the design through to the bedrooms, we carried the neutral tones into the master bedroom and added in elements of black to bring some more depth to the space. The Little Green Baluster colour that we used on all the walls makes the room feel cosy and inviting, and the custom-made headboard with its bold pattern and black border really makes it stand out against the wall colour.
For the girl’s bedroom, we created something a bit more playful with the pops of colour coming through on the cushions, and little houses on the wallpaper. We contrasted this playfulness with sleek black, which ties the room well with the en-suite and keeps the flow throughout the rest of the house.
For the guest bedroom, we continued the luxurious feel with velvet fabrics and gold hardware to give the room a deluxe hotel feel. The palm leaf print helps to break up all the textures and adds in a fun element. Finally, in the boy’s bedroom, we took inspiration from Ralph Lauren. The wood effect Casamance wallpaper really enhances and, combined with the natural tones and textures, it makes the space feel warm and relaxing. The linen lampshades and the knitted throw give the room a cosy and comfortable feel.
End Result
Overall, the design and styling of the showhome came together really well in each individual room, as well as collectively to create a really beautiful and modern family home. By incorporating high specification furniture pieces and layers of textures in each room, we created a luxurious showhome that would impress any potential buyer.
