Description
Mark Catesby (1683-1749) was an English naturalist, artist, and explorer known for his significant contributions to early American natural history. He is best remembered for his monumental work in the publication -The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands.
The botanical illustration of the Magnolia tree (The Laurel Tree of Carolina) in Volume 2 is a masterpiece that captures the tree's beauty in all its glory. Against an ebony background, the stunning stem showcases the large aromatic flower and the exotic pink fruit, creating a visual treat for the eyes.
A slimline mottled gold frame presents the beautiful canvas.
