Ercol was established over 100 years ago in 1920 by Italian designer Lucian R Ercolani in High Wycombe, the centre of English furniture making. He was intent on designing and producing relevant and honest furniture, design and people were the cornerstones of his company from the very beginning. This remains true of the company today, it remains family owned with Lucian’s great grandson heading up the business to continue his beliefs today.

Design has always been at the heart of Ercol. Our designs constantly evolve to reflect how we live today. We have a talented In-house design team and furniture technicians, to create and develop our furniture designs, we also collaborate with external UK designers to create unique pieces all of which are made with integrity and fit for purpose.

How to care for and maintain your Ercol furniture

Caring for your Ercol furniture is an essential step in preserving the quality and beauty of the product, specifically in any of Ercol’s wooden furniture pieces. To help you increase the longevity of your Ercol furniture we’ve shared some top tips on how to care and maintain your furniture pieces…

Dust regularly

You want to begin by ensuring that you’re frequently dusting your wooden Ercol furniture with a dry, lint-free cloth. The reason for doing this is to help avoid the build-up of any dust, dirt, pollen or bacteria, as this can end up sinking into the surface of the furniture.

For upholstered furniture, you can remove any dust by gently vacuuming the furniture or using a soft brush to sweep over the area, it’s recommended that you do this once a week.

Keep out of direct sunlight

Exposure to direct sunlight can cause wooden furniture items to fade or even turn the colouring uneven. The same also applies to fabric furniture, therefore, you want to ensure that you’re keeping any items out of direct sunlight or away from a heat source.

Quickly remove stains or spills

Any accidental spills or stains should be mopped up as swiftly as possible to avoid the chance of the stain or mark sinking into the surface of the wood or fabric. However, in the case of mud, the mark should be left until the mud is fully dried and then brushed off.

When it comes to Ercol dining tables and coffee tables, you should always use placemats and coasters to help protect the surface from any moisture, stains or heat damage. This is particularly important in the case of glass tables, as placing extremely hot or cold items directly onto the surface without thick placemats may cause the glass to crack.

Be careful while moving and handling

Some of Ercol’s wooden furniture can be very heavy, therefore, you should be extremely cautious when moving or transporting any items. Never decide to slide or drag any of the furniture, as this can not only damage the item but potentially mark your floors or nearby walls. Instead, you should always lift the furniture - only if it’s within a safe weight limit!
