Description

Inspired by Jean Tijou’s 1689 flamboyant style of ironwork for the interiors and gardens at Hampton Court Palace. This design particularly echoes the grandeur of the Queen’s Staircase, blending the baroque elegance of King William III and Queen Mary II’s court with timeless craftsmanship.

For those who appreciate heritage and luxury, this statement bed set has been translated onto a beautiful soft blue 250-thread-count cotton sateen, paired with a reversible Fleur de Lis pattern and completed with a mock Oxford edge finish.

Inspiration
The magnificent baroque ironwork of the renowned designer and blacksmith Jean Tijou can be seen throughout Hampton Court Palace interiors and the palace gardens. His work is also featured at Kensington Palace.

Tijou was commissioned from 1689–1710 for several significant works at the palaces, including the King’s Stairs, the Queen’s Stairs and the gates on the East Front connecting the palace gardens to Home Park. The dramatic golden gate screen panel at the entrance to the King’s Privy Garden from the River Thames is a masterpiece in artistry and skill.

In 1693, Jean Tijou published a set of 20 prints of his designs for ironwork, including the iconic Fleur de Lis motif seen throughout the palaces. This was the first pattern book of ironwork ever to be published in Britain.
