Making the transition from cot to bed is a big step for both you and your child and can be an exciting yet daunting experience. There are a lot of factors to consider when deciding on your child's first bed from safety to costs.

To assist you in this process, we spoke with Valerie from our bedding department, who offers her recommendations and insights on selecting the right bed for your little one.

Safety

The top priority regardless of the type of bed or age your child is at, is their safety and wellbeing. When choosing a bed you want to pick a design that has suitable safety measures in place to ensure your child does not get injured, this may include features such as guardrails or a sturdy bed frame.

Mattress

It can often be overlooked but choosing the correct mattress for your child is equally as important as picking the right bed frame. Picking a suitable mattress will depend on factors such as your child's age as you want to purchase something that will support their development. Style and functionality

Once establishing that your child is ready to bid farewell to their cot, you now have the decision of picking a bed which meets the needs of both you and your child, whether this be a transitional toddler bed or fast tracking to a regular style bed.

The benefit of investing in a regular single bed is that your child is less likely to outgrow this as quickly as a toddler bed, proving to be more cost effective. You may also want to consider picking out a style of bed that best suits your child’s room and their personality. If you are having trouble on how to style your little one's room then we have shared some of our top tips

For children a little bit older, cabin beds or bunk beds may be a better option as they can offer additional storage or even a handy pull out desk giving your child lots of space to play and study. The Eastbury mid sleeper is the perfect option for those who are looking to maximise space whilst boasting a beautiful hard-wearing design.

Get your child involved in the process

Getting their first ‘big bed’ is an exciting and memorable experience for both parents and child. As a parent, you want to make the transition from cot to bed as seamless as possible and one of the best ways to do this is by getting your child involved in the process.

Letting your child have their say about certain colours or styles can help them feel more involved in the process and get them excited to make the big move into their new bed. The Children’s Bed Company offers a range of bed frames coming in lots of different colours and designs making them a popular choice in store.

We have a large selection of children's beds available in store, just head upstairs to our bedding department where one of our wonderful bedding team members will be able to help you out and provide you with more information.

This month we are celebrating National Bed Month with a range of discounts and promotions across our bedroom department.
